Google Connected Apps Platform: What It Means for AI Visibility
In short: On 28 October 2026 Google launched a phased preview of its Connected Apps Platform. Developers can submit cloud MCP or Android AppFunctions integrations for Google Search, Gemini or both, using the Google Connected Console for testing, review and traffic monitoring. The preview is US-focused, with no promised India date or conversion-attribution features, and it is not a new Google Ads placement.

- This is not an ad product. It is a possible route for services to be used inside AI experiences.
What Google launched
On 28 October 2026 Google announced a phased preview of the Connected Apps Platform. It lets developers submit integrations that connect a service to Google's AI experiences. Two kinds are supported:
- Cloud MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers, which let an AI assistant call your service's tools over the web.
- Android AppFunctions, which expose actions inside an Android app.
These can be submitted for Google Search, Gemini or both. The Google Connected Console supports testing, review and monitoring of operational traffic.
Why it matters
People increasingly ask an AI assistant to do things, not just find pages: book a service, check availability, get a quote. A connected app lets an assistant do that through your system instead of sending the person to a website. That is a new route to be discovered and used inside AI experiences.
What it is not
- Not a Google Ads placement. You cannot buy visibility through it.
- Not available everywhere. The preview is currently US-focused, and there is no promised Indian rollout date.
- No attribution promise. Google did not announce conversion tracking for it.
Who should care
- Software and app businesses with a public API or mobile app.
- Booking, quoting and delivery services whose key action can be exposed as a clean tool.
- Everyone else does not need to act. A normal website with clear answers, structured data and good SEO is still the foundation.
How to get ready without building anything
- Write down the three things customers most want to do with your business, and how they do them today.
- Make sure prices, availability, service areas and policies are clearly stated on your site in text.
- Add structured data for your organisation, services, products and FAQs.
- If you have an API, document it, because the same documentation is what a connected integration needs.
- Track AI referrals as a separate channel in GA4. See our AI search traffic study.
This is the kind of groundwork we include in every website we build.
