ChatGPT Ads Reach 89 Countries and 100,000+ Advertisers: Where India Stands
In short: OpenAI expanded ChatGPT ads to 26 more countries on 21 October 2026, bringing the total to 89 countries and more than 100,000 cumulative advertisers since launch. India is not one of the newly added countries: it already went live on 29 August 2026 as part of an earlier 32-market rollout. As of that August launch, India had no self-serve Ads Manager; buying was routed through OpenAI's Ads Solutions team and its agency and technology partners, with self-serve called "coming soon."
- On 21 October 2026, OpenAI added 26 more countries to ChatGPT ads, taking the total to 89.
- More than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns since ads launched just over eight months ago. This is a cumulative figure, not a current active-advertiser count.
- India is not part of the 21 October expansion. India's own rollout was 29 August 2026, alongside 31 European markets.
- At the August India launch, there was no self-serve Ads Manager. Buying went through OpenAI's Ads Solutions team and partner agencies, with a stated minimum daily spend floor of ₹725.
- OpenAI has not published a newer, India-specific update since August, so treat the self-serve timeline as unconfirmed until OpenAI says otherwise.
What OpenAI announced on 21 October
OpenAI added ChatGPT ads to 26 more countries on 21 October 2026, taking its total footprint to 89 countries. OpenAI also said more than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns since ads launched just over eight months ago — a cumulative number that does not say how many of those advertisers are still active today or how much they are spending.
Where this leaves India
India was not part of this round. India's own rollout happened earlier, on 29 August 2026, together with 31 European markets in a five-day stretch that added 32 new markets at once.
At that August launch, India did not have self-serve access through an Ads Manager. Campaigns were bought by going through OpenAI's own Ads Solutions team or its agency and technology partners, and OpenAI described self-serve Ads Manager access as "coming soon." The minimum daily spend floor published at the time was ₹725.
OpenAI has not put out a India-specific update since then, so if you have been waiting on self-serve access, there is nothing new to confirm either way as of this article — check directly with OpenAI or your buying partner before assuming it has shipped.
What is rolling out in other markets
The October update did not detail new ad formats for India specifically, but it noted other markets are seeing sponsored placements being tested in Europe, a Sponsored Agents test in the US, ads shown during image generation in the US, and CPC bidding added alongside CPM for ad groups. Separately, on 16 September 2026 OpenAI said advertisers could run ChatGPT ads from HubSpot and Shopify, without India-specific detail on how that integration works.
Why this matters if you run paid media in India
ChatGPT ads are still a managed-buy channel in India, not a self-serve one you can switch on from a dashboard the way you would with Meta or Google. Budget for lead time to work through a partner, and don't plan a ChatGPT-ads line item into a campaign calendar assuming self-serve has launched until you see it confirmed.
