Meta US Political Ad Restriction: 27 Oct to 3 Nov 2026
In short: From 12:01 a.m. Pacific on 27 October to 3 November 2026, Meta does not allow new US ads classified as social issues, elections or politics to start serving. Eligible existing ads need a valid disclaimer and at least one delivered impression before the cutoff, and only bids, budgets, end dates and pause status remain editable. Ordinary commercial advertising in India is not affected.
- The restriction is US-only and covers ads classified as social issues, elections or politics.
- Approval alone is not enough: an existing ad needed a valid disclaimer and at least one delivered impression before the cutoff.
- During the window only bids, budgets, end dates and pause or resume status can be edited.
- It does not apply to normal lead-generation or ecommerce campaigns in India.
The rule in plain words
Meta announced a restriction period ahead of the US midterm elections. It runs from 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time on 27 October to 3 November 2026. During it, new ads that Meta classifies as being about social issues, elections or politics cannot start serving in the US.
Which ads can keep running
An existing ad can continue only if it met both conditions before the cutoff:
- It carried a valid "Paid for by" disclaimer.
- It had delivered at least one impression.
An ad that was approved but had not yet delivered may not qualify. Check each ad individually, not just each campaign.
What you can and cannot edit
| Allowed during the restriction | Not allowed |
|---|---|
| Bids and budgets | Creative changes |
| End dates | Audience or targeting changes |
| Pause and resume | Placement and optimisation edits |
Do not try to work around the freeze by duplicating or re-submitting ads. New classified ads cannot start in the window.
Who is affected
- Indian agencies with US political or advocacy clients should audit eligibility ad by ad and warn clients about the editing limits.
- Everyone else is not restricted. This does not pause ordinary commercial campaigns in India, and it is not a general Meta ads outage.
Agency checklist
- List every US account that runs issue, election or political ads.
- For each live ad, confirm the disclaimer and a delivered impression before the cutoff.
- Agree with the client who can request budget or pause changes, and how fast.
- Plan creative and targeting changes for after 3 November.
- Keep a written record of what was live when the window began.
Policy deadlines are as important as performance numbers. If you want a second pair of eyes on a Meta account, request a free review or see our Meta Ads management.
